For a great many people I know, Hallowe’en is their favorite holiday of the year. Autumn weather, trick-or-treaters, leaves crunching under your feet and a hot beverage to chase away the chill are just some of the many delights of the season. COVID-19 has changed the way we do things, so in most municipalities trick-or-treating is cancelled. However, there are still ways to enjoy the season, if only virtually.
A group of us got together to “put on a show” as it were. Scattered across the US, over a dozen people have organized “Covidween” to celebrate the season with virtual fun. So far it’s been a bit of a mixed bag; after all, we only started planning this a month ago…
A number of events have already taken place. The Goth Glam Make-up tutorial and the interview with authors Linda Addison and Yvonne Navarro have both already taken place. The flash fiction contest is in the final judging stage, with the winner announced on Saturday. However, there is still plenty of spooky goodness to enjoy, and all of it is FREE to attend via Zoom (though you need to register for a ticket in order to attend events.)
TONIGHT (Tuesday, October 20) will be a tea-torial on how to make a pumpkin pincushion to address any seasonal sewing needs one may have. This event is FREE, but to attend one must register for a ticket to gain admission to the Zoom meeting. Here’s the link to the info page: https://www.facebook.com/events/341237763846280

Thursday October 22 is the Goth Fashion for Every Occasion panel, with expert panelists Ember Brenna Sparks, Eve Riot, and Madame Askew talking about how to make Goth fashion a part of your everyday life, or how to do it up right for that special event. Panel begins at 8 PM CDT, and the link for tickets can be found on this page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1217863825265143
Saturday October 24 at 8 PM CDT there will be a panel discussion on the TV show Supernatural. During this panel will be when the flash fiction contest winner is announced, so you won’t want to miss that! Once again this is a free event, but you must register to gain admission to the Zoom chat. Here’s the link where registration and other info can be found: https://www.facebook.com/events/339915097313312
There will be more events next week as well. Check out the Covidween Master page, updated as new events are added: https://www.facebook.com/events/628833974493756/?active_tab=discussion
We may have to adjust how we do things to adapt to life during a pandemic, but there’s no reason we can’t still have some fun! Join us for Covidween and wring some virtual enjoyment out of these desperate times!
