Hello – it’s been a while.
I’ve got two books that came out recently with contributions of mine in them. First is Fantastic Flops: Reflections on Misjudged Films The Broke the Rules from Ghost Show Press. My essay covers the film Big Trouble in Little China, one of my all-time favorite action films. It stars Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, and James Hong, among many others.

The links to purchase this book are a little complicated for some unknown reason. There are separate ones for each format, so here goes:

This is the third book in this series (sub-titled “Everyone’s Gone to the Movies” in a nod to the Steely Dan song), following Transgressive Horror and Subversive Sci-Fi. My horror essay covers the film Congo, while I have two essays on films in the Sci-FI volume: Brazil and Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension.

The second book debuted at the Tell-Tale Steampunk Festival in Baltimore, MD over the weekend of April 20-21, 2024. That book is A Cry of Hounds, and is an anthology of stories inspired by the various works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. My story is a continuation of the events chronicled in Doyle’s excellent and chilling tale “Lot 249.” The author inspiring last year’s theme at Tell-Tale Steampunk Festival was Edgar Allen Poe, and the anthology from eSpec paired with that author is titled A Cast of Crows. Both volumes feature a stellar cast of authors contributing short stories, so I hope you’ll check them out, particularly if you’re fans of the authors to whom they are a tribute.
This is my first time collaborating with the good folks at eSpec Books, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The genius behind Ghost Show Press and their business partner Fainting Goat Games seem satisfied with my essays, and keep accepting my pitches when they announce a new theme. There’s another volume in the works for release early next year – fingers crossed!
It’s been a bit of a dry spell for me lately: haven’t had anything published since last year’s Subversive Sci Fi essay collection, so I’m thrilled – and also a bit bemused – to have two things come out in the same week so far this year. On the plus side, my rejections lately have been of the “This is a great story but not quite what we’re looking for” type, so I’m hopeful that I’ll have a few more acceptances to share with you in the near future. In the mean time, stay well, keep the faith, and don’t give up the fight!
You’re among good company in those. Looking forward to reading them!
Thanks for contributing! You really filled a gap we didn’t realize we had quite nicely. I hope you make Tell-Tale next year!
